  1. Awesome George! I can't wait to get our cleanse! It takes a while to get out here to the Virgin Islands but, when it does we will be blogging about it :)

  2. I am on day 9 of the 21 day full body cleanse. Love it! The new cleanse program solves several issues associated with other cleanses. It is a complete system with only 3 supplements in addition to the shake. I personally love the shake just as it is, but I am a chocolate fan. I add a dash of good cinnamon, handful of spinach or kale, 4-5 frozen pitted cherries, scoop of almond butter, a few ice cubes, into the Vita Mix and in 30 seconds i have a complete meal that tastes great. I have lost 4 lbs, but have not exercised as much as I should. Will work on that this week with burst training.

  3. I'm a week into this cleanse. For reference, this is the third 21 day cleanse I've done this year; under George's guidance, I've lost 70 pounds and want to reach 100 by the fall. The weight loss has come through a healthy diet, burst training and the cleanses. Even better,I've seen a huge improvement in my health without drugs. For example, my blood pressure has fallen more than half!

I received the cleanse while traveling in New York. So for the first week it was just sort of catch-as-catch can; I just mixed the cleanse powder with water, ice, and a tablespoon of unsweetened bakers cocoa powder. Tasted great! Two stipulations: I'm not fussy, and I like, for example, bitter dark chocolate, not sweet stuff. So YMMV.

One instant impression -- this is SO easy to use! Two scoops into the blender, and mix. Much better...

  4. OK, I'm back in Tejas, in my own kitchen, with my own stuff. So I'm getting fancy with the shakes. New recipe, courtesy of Sam: two scoops of cleanse, almond milk and three tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil. Put it all in the bullet blender, and voila! Brownie for breakfast. Very nice!

  6. @ Chris Samantha used this recipe to make it taste like a brownie: 2 tablespoons of unrefined coconut oil 2 tablepoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/4 teaspoon of Stevia and 10oz almond milk.
You can even make extra and keep it for the next few days. Do not refrigerate the syrup is may coagulate

  7. I've gotten a few questions about my post on the taste of the shakes. I should specify that I'm no fan of the sweet brownies you find ready to eat; I like the dark, bitter chocolate stuff: think Ghirardelli brownies. That's why I don't add any sweeteners.

If you like something sweeter, I'd go with Sam's recipe, which is mighty tasty.

  8. I've been experimenting with the recipe a little bit. I've substituted Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk for the regular. It's interesting, and a touch less bitter. I like them both.

  9. One thing I think is often overlooked in taste discussions is the role played by texture. While the taste of the new cleanse is very good, the texture is much, much better than previous cleanses. And yes, I'm using the same blender! (It's one of those little Rocket jobs.) In fact I noticed this immediately as a huge improvement, but I wanted to get back from my trip and use my own blender to make sure it wasn't just an equipment thing.

Anyway, I've used several cleanses before, and found two texture problems: they tended to either froth, or clump. Frothing is...odd. Clumping is quite nasty -- you're drinking your shake, and suddenly there's a clump of dry powder breaking open in your mouth. Ughh. I learned never to drink them without a cup of coffee close by to wash that mess down.

So I've made this cleanse with just water, and with several kinds of almond milk. Zero frothing. And not one clump.

It's really something to look forward to in the morning now.

  10. I've become used to being on a cleanse becoming sort of a production. I really need coffee to get going in the morning, and with previous cleanses I'd down a whole mug before attempting to mix the shake: different sized scoops for each product, different mixtures depending on how far you'd progressed -- week one, week two, etc. This thing is so simple I have to remind myself I'm on a cleanse. Two scoops in the blender; done. Add your recipe. I just add the capsules to the supplements I'm taking anyway. It's no bother to the point where I forget that I'm on a cleanse!

  11. Everyone seems to want to talk about weight, though that's not the primary purpose of the cleanse...overall I've lost 70 pounds this year. I floated up about five pounds during the trip, which I expected. Been back a week, and now I'm back down to where I started. I'm really trying to make a push through the rest of this cleanse; eating right, and exercising like crazy.
Speaking of which, off to workout...

  12. Workout went very well. One of the interesting things about this program is that I'm now approaching the best shape of my life, fitness wise, with no where near the time commitment. I think it is fair to say that the best shape of my life was when I was in the Army; at 27 I did 52 pushups in two minutes on the physical fitness test, my best result. Last week I did 50. I'm 54, these days.

In the Army in those days I ran 5 miles daily and lifted weights for 2-3 hours. I was doing squats with double my body weight on the bar.

Now I work out about 20 minutes a day, using the exercises in George's burst training video. In fact you can see me doing some of the exercises in that video.

20 minutes vs. 3 hours for similar results. Or better results -- much easier to be in shape when you're 27...

  13. One of the really extraordinary results of the cleanse and burst training George has guided me through this year has been the measurable improvement in my health. Sure, I'm down 70 pounds; I look better and I feel better. But at heart and by profession I am a scientist and engineer; data makes me happsy.

So here is data: Last year -- 2012 --before I started this program I went to the dentist; my blood pressure was 186/148. They wanted me to go to the emergency room.

Went back to the dentist last month. 130/73. Blood pressure has dropped by more than half -- Diastolic, or bottom number -- from hypertensive to normal. No drugs. Nothing but George's program.

    I'm grateful.

  14. Health is certainly the most important and best reason to use the cleanse and burst training program. But there's also a huge improvement in quality of life. You sleep better. You feel better.

One quick, concrete example. For the last two decades I've been unable to get through a meal without a carbonated beverage. Diet Coke at first, then Perrier. Food just seemed to get stuck going down. And then there was the heartburn...

I can't remember the last time I had a Diet Coke. I'm guessing December. I realized a few weeks ago that I'd entirely stopped drinking sparkling water. Can't remember the last time I had heartburn...

Life is pretty good, these days...

  15. I'm a veteran -- I served in the US Army 1982-87 -- so I have the advantage of having undergone a Physical Training Test every six months. Gives me a pretty good yard stick for comparisons.

My last PT test was when I was 27 years old. Passing in those days was 40 pushups in 2 minutes; 40 situps in two minutes; then running 2 miles in less than 15 minutes. I decided to try to post my best scores, and I did. I knocked out 52 pushups, and ran out of time at 70 situps. Was annoyed that I didn't max, then realized I was cramping so bad I was in danger of failing the run. Got next to the captain, who was much faster but paced me, and did 14:40.

I'm 54 now, and despite losing 70 pounds, I'm still 50 heavier than I was that day. I've been on George's burst training program since New Year's. Last week he had me do as many pushups as I could without stopping and I could only do...

    50.

Life is pretty good, these days.

  16. Sometimes the little things make the biggest difference. I mentioned in an earlier post that I'm now doing as many push ups at 54 as when I was 27 and a sergeant in the USArmy.

I've always done push ups; just not this many in a very long time. And when George started pushing me to incorporate more -- and more kinds -- into my workouts, I started to get that strength back.

Last week I realized that at some point this summer I had stopped getting down on the floor to do push ups. Instead of getting down on my hands and knees, then leveraging myself up into the push up position, I simply bend down, put my hands on the ground, and start doing push ups.

Haven't done that in decades. Haven't been ABLE to do that in decades...

  17. Just returned from 6 days of business meetings in Toronto. I was concerned about a keeping my cleanse on track, but found the Toronto restaurant community very interested and willing to prepare foods that fit into the detox. It was very simple eating within the 21 day cleanse protocol while traveling.
I made my shake in the mornings with water and cinnamon, a few ice cubes. I missed my almond butter and frozen cherries, but was still pleased mixing it in my hotel room with my shaker. I don't add any sweeteners.
One clear result has been the behavior modification effect of the detox is accumulative. Weight loss and fat loss are the result of not only a healthy diet, but mentally I feel better because I know I am taking good care of myself and I am consciously reinforcing it through the 21 day cleanse program.

  18. As I near the end of my 21 day cleanse I know the eating and exercise habits I have learned will stay with me because I see the results and the healthy diet is not a diet anymore. It is how I eat (and drink). I will stay on the detox type eating plan, knowing I can effect a healthy loss in fat and weight just by using the healthy guidelines of the 21 body makeover. And when I do cheat I don't feel guilty because it is a reward because I know I am doing so well the other 5-6 days of the week. Now it is a healthy lifestyle I can be proud of.

  19. 2 major improvements towards the end of my detox. 1) At Whole Foods I can walk by the chocolate aisle and keep moving. It is normally a grazing station for me. No more. My inner chocolate is tamed.
    2) The exercise videos have been very helpful. The previous program had great still shots, but the videos are awesome because I can pause, rewind, etc and really check my form. Valuable tool. If I am taking the time to exercise I may as well do it right!

  20. I started the Detox one week ago. This is third detox I've done, but it's been several years since the last one. I had a cold when I started and had a rough first couple of days, but was starting to turn the corner by day three. Having had a cold, I missed exercising the first week (bad idea. Last time I missed workouts while on a detox, I started getting flu-like symptoms that lasted a day). Today, I finally got back in the gym and was actually surprised by my performance. My trainer noticed as well. I do high intensity interval training using kettle bells, body weight exercises and the like. After a week out, having changed nothing besides doing the detox, my endurance was noticeable improved. I don't recommend anyone repeat my accidental experiment, but it is an interesting observation all the same.
I did the detox for several reasons. I do need to get rid of some fat. Aside from that, I have had more frequent headaches in the last several months and I have found myself waking early unable to go back to sleep. I also have had some mild digestive problems, just feeling bloated and kinda rotten after most meals. Lastly, I heard that George had changed his formula and I just wanted to check it out. The first thing I noticed was how great it tastes. I've choked down some pretty disgusting tasting stuff in the past, but my wife has a pretty discriminating palate and she likes it quite a bit. The other thing I noticed was just how soothing it felt in my stomach after my first shake. It was like a magic stomach elixir. The digestive issues resolved for me pretty much immediately. I haven't had a headache in 4 days, but I'm sure it's still early to tell if that's because of the detox. Sleep is getting better. I still wake before my alarm, but not an hour before like I had been doing some mornings.
I'll update again soon with my progress. I'll talk about some of the recipes we've tried and also talk about how I "trained my trainer."

  21. I have another interesting observation to share. My mother-in-law came in town for an extended four day weekend. We included her on our meals. She pretty much ate what we ate on the detox meal plan except for the morning shakes. She enjoyed the food as well. This morning, she called my wife pleased to report that she lost five pounds over the weekend. I'll be the first to tell you that only a pound of that could have been fat. Most of what she lost was water weight, but it makes sense. She eliminated the toxins coming in, and her liver and kidneys had the chance to catch up on removing some of the toxic build up. All the toxins came out as water weight. I can imagine how well she would do if she did the whole detox program.
This morning, it also dawned on me that I've kicked a chronic cough I've had for a little over a year. I haven't coughed in a week. Most likely I was allergic to something or some things.
As promise, here's how I trained my trainer. When I first started with a personal trainer, I tried to explain how I wanted to work out. I explained burst training and that I liked functional exercises like kettle bells and body weight exercises. This was to no avail. I can in for my first training session and sat on 6 different back machines, then did some abs. I was less that thrilled. On the day of our second training session, I came in early and started doing Turkish get-ups with kettle bell swings and snatches. He saw me working out and watched for a little while. A short while later, he came up to me and said, "OK, now I see how you like to work out." From that time forward, he took and ran with it, looking stuff up on the internet. He's now using the same exercises and concepts with his other clients. I had the benefit of having established good form prior to working with him(It is very important that you learn good for when working with kettle bells in order to get the most out of the exercise and avoid injury). If you have difficulty finding someone who already knows burst training, don't give up. You just need to find someone who is open-minded and you can learn together.
